About me

Hello and welcome to my academic website!

I am Dr. John McArdle, a Professor of Accounting and Tax in the Bertolon School of Business at Salem State University. I teach courses in taxation, regulation, strategy, and business and human rights. I have also been a Fulbright Scholar in the Republic of Kosovo, and have taught courses and directed grant-funded community-engaged research projects at the University of Calgary.

My research and teaching interests explore how regulatory environments impact business strategy and shape social and firm behavior, particularly in emerging industries. I also write about community-engaged place-based and constructivist pedagogy, and how innovative pedagogical approaches can transform the learning experience for students.

At Salem State I chair our departmental curriculum committee and serve as a faculty director of our university general education curriculum, where I am responsible for assessment work.

Here you'll find information about my research projects, publications, and teaching activities. Recent publications include explorations of these topics in journals such as the Journal of Entrepreneurship and Public Policy, the Journal of Taxation, the Central European Business Review, and Imagining SoTL.
